Tampa Sister Cities is pleased to announce that Thiru Govender, CPA, MBA has joined the Tampa International Diplomacy and Exchange Summit (TIDES) Operating Committee as Budget and Finance Lead.
Thiru is an Assurance Practice Leader in BDO USA’s Tampa office, where he brings more than 30 years of public accounting experience supporting multinational, privately held, and Securities and Exchange Commission reporting companies across industries including technology, manufacturing, distribution, and retail.
In his role with TIDES, Thiru will help support the summit’s financial planning, budget structure, revenue tracking, expense review, and reporting as TIDES continues to develop as a major international platform for Tampa.
Thiru’s international experience makes him especially well-suited for this role. He works extensively with BDO International member firms and currently serves as Head of BDO’s US/India Desk. His work has included clients with operations across Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, as well as coordination of foreign statutory audits, US GAAP procedures, and SOX 404 procedures. He has also hosted seminars on “Doing Business in the US” throughout India and Africa.

TIDES is being developed by Tampa Sister Cities to bring together leaders in international trade, diplomacy, education, innovation, sustainability, culture, and exchange. As Budget and Finance Lead, Thiru will work with the Operating Committee to help align the summit’s financial planning with its broader mission of strengthening Tampa’s role as a global city.
