Developing Global Citizens: How International Education Shapes K–12 Students

How are Tampa schools preparing students to succeed in an increasingly international world?

This session explores how globally focused K–12 education programs help students develop critical thinking, intercultural understanding, communication, collaboration, and global awareness before they enter college or the workforce.

Using International Baccalaureate and Cambridge International Education as two examples, educators and students will examine how international learning frameworks are incorporated into the classroom and how they shape the way students understand the world around them.

Panelists will discuss the IB Learner Profile, Cambridge Learner attributes, Global Perspectives, and other approaches that encourage students to examine complex issues, consider perspectives beyond their own, communicate across differences, and become more engaged global citizens.

Students will provide a firsthand perspective on how these programs have influenced their academic experience, their understanding of other cultures and global issues, and the way they see their own role in an interconnected world.

Rather than comparing one academic program against another, the session focuses on the larger question:

How can international education help Tampa develop the next generation of globally capable citizens and leaders?
