Tampa-Agrigento Sister Cities Committee

Tampa and Agrigento have shared a Sister City relationship since 1991, building on the deep Sicilian roots of Tampa’s Italian-American community. Agrigento was selected because roughly 90% of Tampa’s Italian Americans trace their ancestry to the Province of Agrigento. Over the decades, the partnership has included official delegations, cultural exchanges, educational programs, economic-development discussions, and arts collaborations. A 1996 Tampa delegation helped lead to a historic loan of Sicilian antiquities from Agrigento’s National Museum to the Tampa Museum of Art. More recent initiatives have focused on trade, tourism, and business development, including the 2021 Italy Expo celebrating the relationship’s 30th anniversary and showcasing Sicilian cuisine, artisans, and products in Tampa.
