Dr. Kaya Hamer-Small has served as Director of the Honors Program at Hillsborough College in Tampa, Florida, since 2022. She is also President of the Southern Regional Honors Council (SRHC) and Treasurer of the Florida Collegiate Honors Council (FCHC), and she is active in the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC).
She oversees honors programming across the college’s campuses and maintains strong transfer pipelines to four-year universities, undergraduate research, and transfer scholarships. Under her leadership, the program offers two to three study abroad experiences each year, giving community college students access to the kind of global learning more often associated with four-year universities. The Honors Program also hosts students and faculty from Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences each year, and Honors students travel to Amsterdam in return.
Dr. Hamer-Small holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University at Albany, State University of New York, and is completing the Teaching and Learning Collaborative, a 14-week program for community college leaders focused on global learning and institutional change.
